AI and web development, what is actually true

Not the job, the task list. AI has absorbed the routine middle: boilerplate code, standard layouts, first drafts. What it has not absorbed: accountability, architecture judgement, client translation, security response, and the "someone must fix this tonight" layer. The profession is polarising, generic juniors are squeezed, senior-and-accountable developers are busier. Build quality went up, build responsibility went nowhere.

Yes for simple static pages, genuinely useful, genuinely fast. No for the parts that make a website a business asset: domains, hosting, email, security, integrations, performance on real networks, and maintenance. A ChatGPT page is a starting artefact, not a deployed responsibility. Anyone claiming parity is selling something, and anyone claiming uselessness has not shipped with it.

Honest framing: roles are not surviving or dying binary, tasks are. Most-exposed task clusters: routine data entry, basic transcription/translation, template-level content production and first-tier template support. Least-exposed: work requiring physical presence, licensed accountability, or cross-domain judgement under ambiguity. Web development sits in the middle with the judgement end secure, which is why this site sells the senior end honestly.

AI/ML specialists: $120k–200k+ mid-to-senior in the US, ₹12–40 LPA in India depending on depth; "AI-integration developers" (embedding models into products, the practical majority) earn a 15–30% premium over equivalent full-stack roles. The premium is real but the fundamentals still decide: an AI-integration developer is first a good developer.

His much-quoted 2024–25 remarks: AI will eventually write most code, so learning to code may be less valuable career-wise, learn to direct and verify AI instead. The verifiable part has already happened for routine code; the prediction part remains contested by everyone who ships production systems. The practical takeaway this desk operates on: developers who direct AI out-ship developers who compete with it.
