Problem × Speed
Why is my Wix site so slow?
the platform tax plus the fixes you can still make
The honest part first
Wix ships platform code on every page (its runtime, editor-generated markup, tracking). You cannot remove that layer; it is the platform tax. Some Wix sites run acceptably; heavy templates and media-rich pages stack slowness on top of it. Optimise what you control, then judge the ceiling.
What you can fix inside Wix
Image weight. The single biggest lever: upload images at display size (not 6000px phone originals), let Wix’s CDN do its conversions, and audit the homepage gallery for oversized backgrounds.
Page weight creep. Every app you installed adds scripts. Open the editor’s app list and remove the dead ones - the free stock-photo app from 2022 is still shipping code.
Animation restraint. Scroll effects, parallax and reveal animations force constant repaints on mid-range phones: keep them for one hero, not every section.
Fonts and video. Custom fonts are fine; six of them are not. Autoplaying background video is the heaviest element a Wix page can carry: poster image + click-to-play wins.
Test like a visitor. Phone, mobile data, incognito. The editor preview lies; the live site on a mid-range Android is the truth.
When the ceiling is still too low
If the business needs speed (SEO-led growth, ad landing pages where every second is money) and the optimised Wix site still misses, migration to WordPress or a custom build removes the platform tax entirely - Wix to WordPress with redirects mapped so rankings survive. We will tell you honestly if your site is fine and the ceiling is acceptable; not every slow site needs to move.
