Schema markup explained: how stars, prices and

Structured data is how Google reads your pages correctly - the types that matter for business sites, and how they earn rich result

Search two dental clinics. One shows as a plain blue link. The other shows stars, price range, open hours, an FAQ drop-down. Same website content underneath - the difference is schema markup: labels that tell Google exactly what each piece of content IS.

What schema actually is

A vocabulary - agreed labels wrapped around your content. This block is a Product, price range this, reviews that. This is a LocalBusiness, opens at nine. This is an FAQ, here are the questions and answers. Google reads the labels, trusts the structure, and - when it judges you deserving - displays the rich result.

The types that matter for business sites

LocalBusiness / ProfessionalService - your name, address, phone, hours, area served. The backbone of local search understanding. Product with price and availability - earns price and stock in results for stores. Review and AggregateRating - the stars. Nothing lifts click-through like stars. FAQPage - question and answer pairs that expand under your result, doubling your screen presence. Breadcrumb - the Home > Services > SEO trail that makes results look trustworthy. Article - for guides, earning author and date display.

What schema does NOT do

It is not a ranking hack. Labels do not lift positions; they lift PRESENTATION - click-through - which brings more traffic from the position you already earned. And rich results are earned, not guaranteed: Google shows them when the markup matches visible, honest page content. Markup claiming reviews that do not exist on the page is a shortcut to a penalty.

How it ships properly

Generated from the page’s real data, not hand-pasted. On our builds, FAQ schema generates automatically from the page’s actual questions, business schema from the site’s real details, breadcrumbs from the real page structure - so markup and content can never drift apart.

Check whether your competitors have stars and FAQs in results and you do not - that gap is click-through you are gifting them. The site teardown reports which schema your site is missing.
