DIY SEO audit: grade your own website in one
A structured self-audit - visibility, pages, speed, proof, conversion - with a scoring sheet that turns findings into a fix list.
You do not need an agency to find out what is wrong with your website. You need one evening, this checklist, and honesty. Grade yourself section by section; every gap becomes a line on your fix list.
Section 1: Visibility (20 points)
Search your five most valuable phrases - service plus city. Note where you appear: map pack? page one? page four? (5 points per phrase on page one.) Then open Search Console: is it verified (5)? Sitemap submitted (5)? Any manual actions or security issues listed (5)?
Section 2: Pages (25 points)
Does every service have its own page (5)? Does every important locality have one (5)? Does any page honestly answer price (5)? Are there pages answering your customers’ most-asked questions (5)? Is anything orphaned - good pages no other page links to (5)?
Section 3: The phone test (20 points)
Open your site on a mid-range Android, on mobile data, at the field. Does something useful appear within two seconds (5)? Can you complete the main action - call, WhatsApp, book - within five (5)? Does any text require zooming or any scroll go sideways (5)? Does the primary action stay within thumb reach (5)?
Section 4: Proof and trust (20 points)
Reviews on your profile (5), recency within the last quarter (5)? Testimonials or work photos on the site (5)? Real names and faces instead of an anonymous “we” (5)?
Section 5: Conversion plumbing (15 points)
Does every form actually send to somewhere a human reads - test it now (5)? Does every page have a next step within reach (5)? Do enquiries land somewhere tracked, not just a chat thread (5)?
Scoring
80-100: you are in the top few percent - maintain and compound. 50-79: functioning but leaking; the gaps are your growth list. Under 50: the site is a liability wearing a domain name - a rebuild is cheaper than the customers you are losing monthly.
