Voice search and 'near me': optimising for how
Buyers increasingly speak their searches. What that changes for local businesses - question pages, natural phrasing and the answer
“Hey Google, is there a good biryani place open near me right now?” Spoken searches are conversational, longer and more local than typed ones - and they are growing with every new phone sold in every market, including ours. Optimising for voice is not a gimmick; it is a slight shift in the same work you should already be doing.
How voice searches differ
Typed: “dentist Guwahati”. Spoken: “who is a good dentist near me that is open on Sunday”. Three differences matter: questions, not fragments - full sentences with who, where, when, how much. Local intent almost always - “near me” is the defining modifier of the voice era. One answer, spoken - the assistant reads out one to three results, not ten blue links. Being result four in the voice era is being nowhere.
What wins spoken answers
Question-shaped pages. The assistant sources answers from pages that ask and answer the exact question. A page titled “Do homestays near Kaziranga allow pets?” with a direct answer in the first line is voice-search food. Build a question page for every real question customers ask - the FAQ structures on our builds exist for precisely this.
The profile is the answer. For “open now” and “near me”, the assistant reads the Google Business Profile - hours, categories, reviews. An incomplete profile means the assistant cannot recommend you even if your kitchen is the best in the district.
Natural phrasing on pages. Write the way people speak - “How much does a website cost in Guwahati? Most business builds land between twenty and thirty-five thousand…” - the question in a heading, the plain answer immediately below. Voice assistants and skimming humans both love this pattern.
Speed still decides. Voice results lean heavily on fast, mobile-clean pages - the assistants do not wait six seconds either.
The quiet truth
Voice optimisation is not a separate discipline. It is question pages, complete profiles, honest answers and speed - the same fundamentals, weighted slightly differently. Businesses that do the fundamentals win spoken and typed alike.
Question-shaped pages ship standard in our builds - see the glossary and FAQ structures, or ask the site teardown what your site answers aloud.
