Website speed: the guide for businesses on
Speed is revenue on mid-range phones and mobile data. The fixes that matter, in order of impact - and what to ignore.
Your customer is on a mid-range phone, on mobile data, maybe a notch above 3G. Your site takes six seconds to show anything. They are gone before your beautiful hero image appears - and they went to the competitor whose site loaded. Speed is not a technical vanity metric; it is the first impression, the bounce rate, the conversion rate and the ad spend all at once.
The fixes that matter, in order
1. Images. Ninety percent of slow sites are drowning in photos uploaded straight from a phone camera - 4 megabytes each. Compress everything before it ships, serve modern formats, size images to where they appear. This one fix routinely halves load time.
2. Caching. A cached page serves in milliseconds because nothing is rebuilt per visitor. If your platform does not cache by default, one honest caching setup changes everything.
3. Fewer scripts. Every chat widget, tracker, popup and animation framework adds weight. Audit ruthlessly: if a script does not earn enquiries, it is a tax. The lean stack we build ships less than 18 kilobytes of JavaScript for an entire business site - most “modern” sites ship two megabytes and wonder why buyers bounce.
4. Hosting that is not bargain-bin. Cheap shared hosting in a far-away data centre adds seconds for Indian visitors. India-serving infrastructure is not a luxury here; it is the difference.
5. Fonts and third-party embeds. Two font files, preloaded. Videos embedded (loaded only when played), never self-hosted autoplay.
What to measure
Not the score-chasing tools - the experience: on a mid-range phone over mobile data, does something useful appear within two seconds, and can a buyer complete the main action within five? That is the test that maps to revenue.
The business case, plainly
Faster sites rank better, convert better, cost less in ads (Google charges slow sites more per click) and survive network patches that send buyers elsewhere. Every fix above pays for itself; together they compound.
Speed is baked into everything we build - and if your current site crawls, the site teardown names exactly what is slowing it, or the redesign service replaces the engine without losing your content.
